Search Engine Myths - Video Blog |
| Okay, so I'm not a good cameraman, director, actor or script writer. But it's the weekend and I have a camera to play with. This FIRST EVER video blog is about the myths of search engine
optimization and how best to get your site as high up on Google as
possible. It's not magic; it's hard work. |

I can point you to ten guys in the area who will take your money and
tell you they can get you on the front page of Google. They will
fail. And it will still take you more time than what I propose. You
can spend thousands hiring a company in hopes of trying to
cheat the system. It will leave you feeling cheated, unimpressed and
worse off. So don't even try to beat the system without watching my
badly produced video.
The good new is you can probably do this yourself with articles that
you or your industry has already published. For instance you can try
going to Topix. Type in your industry and get to work finding ideas
for writing your own content. Be sure to get permission from the
author if you plan to use their work word-for-word. Start with 5-10
articles. Use image names that compliment your company name or service
or product.
If you use common sense and submit an article a week, you'll start
seeing dramatic results and Google will reward you for becoming an
information resource. Not a cheater.
Here's what the expensive SEO companies will have you do. Some are effective if you have thousands to spend:
1. Ask you to compose a list of 20-100 keywords that relate to your business. How long will that take you; and how much is your time worth?
2. Add in this. Subscribe to Google and Yahoo paid banner ads. By the way, they can't give you a price because you need to identify what terms you want to buy. Then Google and Yahoo set the prices daily for those terms. Okay.. could be hundreds, could be thousands per month.
3. And add to it this. Ask you to create new blogs, links in trade magazine sites, links everywhere you can. Some of the more unscrupulous SEO agents will place you in a bunch of link farms and jeopardize your site to being banned for cheating when Google catches up.
All this above should help you get nearer the top, but only for about 3-6 months. Then guess what? They have to do it all over again! In my opinion and experience, your best bet would be to have some patience and do this thing logically. Create great content rich with your keywords. Google will never penalize you for being a great resource for your public.
